What is Arbaeen?
Arbaeen marks the 40th day after Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.s.) at Karbala. It is one of the largest annual peaceful gatherings in the world, with millions of pilgrims walking from Najaf to Karbala in Iraq — a distance of roughly 80 km — to visit the shrine of Imam Hussain (a.s.).

Arbaeen 2026 Dates
Arbaeen falls 40 days after the 10th of Muharram (Ashura). Based on the Islamic calendar, Arbaeen 1448 AH is expected in mid-August 2026 (confirm exact Gregorian date closer to the time, as it depends on moon sighting).

The Najaf–Karbala Walk
Every year, pilgrims from Iraq and around the world undertake the walk on foot, often barefoot, as an act of devotion and solidarity. Along the route, volunteers set up free rest stops (mawakib) offering food, water, medical aid, and shelter — regardless of the pilgrim’s nationality or sect. This spirit of service is central to the Arbaeen tradition.
